Why weight loss is causing you hair-fall ?

You have achieved some weight loss and now it got stuck, also the new problem of hair-fall has started. Is that your story ?

Why does this often happen that you achieve some weight loss but the hair-fall side effect appears soon?

There are two primary reasons for it, first, losing weight wrong way, that’s going on a low calorie diet which puts you in a state of nutritional deficiency and your hair are made up of proteins and malnourished hair fall easily.

Second, eating less also leads to hormonal imbalances, which causes hair fall. Like, it increases the stress hormone (cortisol) in blood as body tries to maintain the blood sugar levels. High cortisol levels in turn leads to suppression of thyroid hormones, as the former tells brain that body is in fight or flight (stress) mode, whereas body needs thyroid hormone in normal/unstressed mode to maintain all the routine functions in a healthy way. Low thyroid hormone leads to hair loss, as I’ve discussed in the previous hair articles that thyroid is necessary to transfer energy into cells, and lack of energy to hair cells causes them to fade and fall out with time.

So, this is one of the many reasons that going on a low calorie diet and exercising too much is a wrong way to lose weight. Low calorie intake decreases your protein intake (which is crucial for hair formation) which will lead to hair-loss. Also, low calorie diet causes deficiencies of minerals and vitamins like iron, zinc, b vitamins and others essential for hair growth.
